It’s estimated that approximately 120,000 children are seen in the ED for burns each year. 15,000 children are hospitalized for burn injuries annually. Over 600 kids die each year from fire or burn related injuries each year, making Pediatric burns are the third leading cause of accidental death amongst children. Most burns occur at home and most are preventable. Thermal burns aka Scald injuries are the #1 Most common type of burns In children under the age of 5.
