The authors used multichannel intraluminal impedance studies (gold standard for diagnosis of GER) in children and matched clinical signs and symptoms with documented episodes of GER and found that the prevalence of GER as detected by MII-pH was low (10%) in symptomatic preterm and term infants and the majority of suspected clinical reflux behaviors did not correlate with reflux events.
