We often err on the side of treating patients suffering minor infectious illness (hello otitis media!) with amoxicillin. Would we be better off not treating at all? Amox causes candidiasis in 1 out of 27 patients, diarrhea in at least 1 out of 10. Are we just writing a prescription for complications?
