Evaluating a pediatric patient with a traumatic red eye is critical. Do not miss diagnoses such as an open globe, acute glaucoma, traumatic iritis and other findings are important.

Hi. This might be a silly question but can I transfer this episode to the adult red eye? I don't really see kids in my practice, but I really enjoyed it and thought the information was very useful.

Heidi J., MD -

Hi Sylvianne!

Good question. A lot of the info in this piece should be transferable to the adult red eye, especially the "must refer to ophthal stat" conditions: a globe rupture is a globe rupture whether you're a pediatric or non-pediatric patient! We'll work on an adult red-eye piece down the road to help fill in any gaps.
Thanks for listening,
Heidi

I love this pearl. I may have heard it in school, but if so, it flat eluded me! "“Can I see the details of the iris clearly?” If it is not completely clear, there could be something wrong."

Heidi J., MD -

Such a great pearl, indeed!
