After their deep dive into the evidence, Jake and Andrew conclude that contralateral prophylactic mastectomies should not play a role in the management of breast cancer for most patients. The risk of recurrence in the contralateral breast is simply too small to justify exposing patients to the potential harms associated with the surgery.
