Dysuria is a much less common complaint in men than in women. In this segment, Vanessa and Adrien discuss the approach, work up, and management of men with dysuria. We’ll get down to the nitty gritty, answering the eternal question: does he need a prostate exam?

Great show. Well done covering all the infectious causes of dysuria in men.
What about non-infectious causes? Its worth mentioning that pelvic floor pain syndrome and non infectious urethritis/prostatitis also do occur. They may be incited by certain activities such as bike riding, for example. I start men concurrently on an NSAID like Daypro. I've heard from urologists that Daypro penetrates well into the prostate and can bring much sought after relief for infectious or non infectious dysuria in men. Your thoughts?

Thank you for your input, Arthur. We definitely focused on acute/infectious causes of dysuria for this episode, but you are absolutely right that we should always consider non-infectious causes as well. And it is definitely a good reminder to think about analgesia for every painful condition we treat. Thanks again for your insight.
Vanessa.
