my thought is that adhd is not so much a disorder as it is a place on the attention spectrum. It has advantages in creativity, risk taking and ability to multitask.
I do not like to given the message to kids or parents that it is a disorder. It is a different process of thinking and interacting. To that end, it is critical for parents to understand that the child needs to learn to be themselves and enjoy their difference.
absolutely meds can help especially in the current public school educational model.
don't even get me started about adult adhd...
