Most of our GI doctors will use endoscopy rather than Barium swallow as a first test in the evaluation of esophageal dysphagia. In a Canadian GI consensus statement, this was recommended as a first-line evaluation Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Assessment of Uninvestigated Esophageal Dysphagia
