When an international expert in obesity medicine is (a) a fun, great teacher and (b) happy to talk to Hippo about how we can help our patients lose weight effectively, we jump at the chance to interview her. In this segment, Dr. Kim Gudzune from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine reviews the best evidence behind successful weight loss and how we can best advise our patients to achieve this goal. This is the first of a 3-part series on diet and weight loss.

I would not exclude walking as long as in "safe areas " or cycling on bicycle tracks away from the automobile threats for losing weight .
For semi retirees of full retirees -
it can be moderate pace say walking 4-5 km / hr depending on ones height ! .
Ten thousand steps a day which will usually be ninety minutes per day .
To walk at a good pace for ninety minutes a day six days a week in fresh air creates the healthy mind set that ought encourage healthier eating .
For patients retired or semiretired it is practical and It can be arranged in groups and clubs .

Excess Alcohol is a problem as it decreases the inhibition to eat and is most likely an appetite stimulant .
Many advanced health systems allow six consultations a year for exercise physiologists a boon for over sixties with some Comorbidities example osteoarthritis .
Yoga Tai Chi and Talking Therapies for example behavioural and cognitive therapies also help .
