Ian L., Dr -

With regards to athletes with asthma salbutamol or albuterol 2 plus inhalations 10 minutes before exercise is used often .
For cold weather climates some add Sodium Cromoglycate (IntalForte ) to the albuterol to get better bronchodilation .
In Australia Peak Flow measures with a Peak Flow Meter was used as a test of asthma control as well as symptoms .
Therefore for males aged 35 height 190 cm peak flow 75th percentile is 680 L/ minute based on deep breathe in and then deep breathe out pushing red arrow as far as possible .
Vital is educating that if wheezy you can use albuterol very liberally with the right technique giving best results -start 4puffs one puff at a time with 4 breathes for each puff so 4puffs 16 breathes over 4 minutes - by yourself or with spacer and with help if available .
