Data from the Danish mammographic screening program suggests that advanced cancers (tumours over 20mm in size) are just as common in screened as in unscreened women. It also found that roughly a third of all tumors found by screening represented “overdiagnosis”, meaning radiographically present masses that would not have gone on to be clinically relevant.
