Thirst is a common symptom in the end-of-life setting. Management includes facilitating access to liquids, re-evaluating medications and therapies that may be contributing, as well as hydrating mouth washes, saliva substitutes and lipbalms. Keeping preferred fluids at the bedside allows family and patient alike to help treat this symptom.
