Andrew, PC RAP’s resident myth buster, and Heidi tackle 3 murky areas in antibiotic use:

  1. Antibiotic resistance in bacteria: bacteria from a cave untouched by humans was found to be resistant to all of our antibiotics, indicating that exposure to these drugs is not the only factor which can drive resistance

  2. Duration of Antibiotic Therapy: most research favours shorter duration of antibiotic therapy for common infections.

  3. Bactericidal and bacteriostatic antibiotics are equally effective in the treatment of most infections.
